I'm Josefina, the founder and jeweller behind Atypical Thing.

Since launching my brand, I've been driven by a desire to offer timeless pieces that are as unique as the people who wear them. Whether it’s a delicate engagement ring or a pair of statement earrings, I believe in creating jewellery that celebrates life’s special moments while making a positive impact.

Growing up in Birmingham, I was surrounded by the rich legacy of the historic Jewellery Quarter, a place where making, craftsmanship and jewellery have been woven into the city for generations. As a half-Spanish jeweller, I’m also deeply connected to Galicia in northern Spain, where my family roots lie. Its wild coastline, old villages, beautiful imperfections and deep-rooted sense of tradition have always felt like another kind of home to me.

These two places sit at the heart of Atypical Thing. Birmingham shaped my love of jewellery and the craft of making, while Galicia has given me an appreciation for things with a story, a sense of place and a little bit of soul. I bring these influences together through traditional jewellery-making techniques, modern shapes and a love of the imperfect, creating pieces that feel nostalgic and new all at once.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I’m excited to share my creations with you and to be part of your own story.
